Hiking

     Hiking

We all want to get away and get outside sometimes, so why not explore the expansive area of the Tweed Valley. Hearthstanes’ surrounding area provides you with ample space for you to get in touch with nature. Click on the link below to plan your next hiking adventure in the Scottish Borders. For example, the John Buchan Way connects Broughton and Peebles with a 13-mile route. Broughton is a mere 10-minute drive from Hearthstanes Steading.

Cycling

     Cycling

Hop on your bike and cycle through the Scottish Borders; for example, try the Borderloop4-Peebles 52-mile loop, and bike alongside the reservoirs, and St. Mary’s Loch. We are located about halfway on the 121 miles (195 km) from Solway to the Forth Scottish C2C Cycle Ride and can accommodate up to twenty-five (25) guests at a time in all five cottages.

     Fishing

Fishing can be both relaxing and fun, and we can provide you with the waters for that. Fishing the Tweed River is available to all. The Tweed River is the second-longest river in Scotland. Go fishing for sport or fun, with friends and family, but make sure you have a permit. Click on the resources here to find more information about fishing in the area and what you might catch on your line.

     Stalking

Sika and roe deer stalking has been carried out at Hearthstanes Estate for many decades. There is exceptional sika and roe deer hunting, with professional stalkers, on the Estate. They utilize numerous stands and hides throughout the farm; which has a well-established network of tracks and forestry rides.

The deer seasons in Scotland are as follows:

Sika Stags: July 1 – October 20

Sika Hinds: October 21 – February 15

Roe Bucks: April 1 – October 20

Roe Does: October 21 – March 31

Please contact Ed Bewsher directly with any inquiries through the Hearthstanes Sporting Facebook Page.
